Course Description

This course provides basic knowledge about passive design strategies, and an introduction to Parametric Design tools and applications. The course provides insights to developing technical tools based on reverse engineering technology, and presents examples of parametric facade designs. The parametric logics with (Rhinoceros) and (Grasshopper), as well as the performance simulation tool (DIVA) are introduced with applications on façade design, day lighting and thermal simulation.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, the participant will be able to:

Extend the knowledge of Passive design
Identify the differences between using parametric design and using conventional CAD methods
Create 3D designs using Rhinoceros and parametric designs using Grasshopper the visual scripting interface for Rhino
Explore and visualize 3D concepts with a powerful set of intuitive design tools.
Employ editing features and productivity tools
Evaluate thermal designs using DIVA
Communicate designs
Evaluate designs
