This course covers the system development life-cycle (SDLC) phases, with respect to the Waterfall Approach; it also describes the Prototype Approach for developing software systems. Object-Oriented (OO) analysis and design concepts are also introduced. However, focus is on the following topics: project-planning activities include elements, resources, risk, project documentation, and a number of tools e.g. Gantt Charts and PERT. Succeeding as a System Analyst includes interpersonal skills, management skills, analytical skills and technical skills. Systems Analysis Techniques covers requirement analysis; system investigation, process analysis, data analysis; documentation: graphical tools, e.g. DFDs, E-R models, decision tables and trees, non-graphical tools, e.g. structured English, data dictionaries; the concept of logical modeling and the transition to design. Business/system specifications are also included.
